This can be partly explained by the fact that authority figures in Indonesia have some kind of dysfunctional personalities stemming from a broken mental schema that was never fixed. I state this both out of cynicism, and a sincere feeling-based observation of how public life is treated in our society. Young professionals, students, labourers, and honest entrepreneurs of MSMEs have to contend with an arbitrary administration who seems to love senseless policy-making, and a nation whose institution are generally hostile to those who questions its authority.

Religion ≠ Race

In Indonesia, religion is considered as a sacred dimension of human life - which is not ideal.

However, this seemingly individualistic and preferential treatment of religion has - since the fall of the Suharto regime - been treated in the same collectivist and weirdly conservative way as one would treat a person’s race.

To break a nation

This essay was originally published in Jakarta Philosophy
It is widely understood in the social sciences that a nation is essentially a community united via social interactions and symbols that relies on the imagination of its people. This is also known as the Andersonian view of nationalism. The title of this article demands an elaboration because it expects to be able to dismantle the nations constructed via Andersonian nationalism.
This article, however, proposes that through the same widely-understood sense as Anderson’s definition of a nation, destroying or breaking apart a nation requires the destruction of the social interactions, symbols, and the very imagination of its people.

avalanche of nothing in particular

I stand Do I stand? on the peak of a civilization long gone, powdered sins underfoot, sins, frogs, fossils, ashes of old promises no witnesses here. and the anticipation kills me, yes, the waiting they said it would, like they said about my fear towards tales out past the waves of wasted words washed clean, Deathless, or only as loud as I gleamed, cringe from the climb to here.
